First, athletes train for years to achieve excellence in their respective sports. Musicians train for years to achieve excellence in their respective fields. Second, athletes must spend time warming up before a game or a sports event. Musicians must tune up before a performance. Third, athletes must maintain a positive self-image. Musicians must be mentally and physically alert and maintain a positive self-image, especially before a performance. Last, athletes who distinguish themselves in their sport are idolized by their fans. Musicians who distinguish themselves are idolized by their fans. All in all, athletes and musicians have much more in common than people realize.

Result

This type of conclusion is well suited to a paragraph in the cause-effect development.

Reforms to reduce children's burden

For several decades in new China, the exam-oriented educational systemhas required that school lessons have to be well learned so children have been burdened with outdated and overly complicated contents in too many subjects, heavy homework and repeated examinations. Moreover, since schools grade students according to their exam marks, most of them are anxious about being graded after exams, some try to commit suicide, and one senior middle school student even killed his mother after his exams and being graded in November 1999. The murder stirred the whole country. Hence, the Ministry of Education finally decided to call for the reforms to reduce children's burden and immediately broadcast the decision through CCTV and other media.

Recommendation

A writer gives a recommendation very often at the end of a paragraph. In the next conclusion, the writer follows a short summary with a recommendation.

Having a successful job interview can be easy if the following procedure is observed. First of all, before you begin the actual interview there are things you must do. You must dress in conservative or tailored clothing and look as neat and clean as you can. You should have additional copies of your resume and letters of recommendation with you. If you have samples of work you did at school or at a previous job -- such as photographs or prints or advertising copy -- you should have these with you too. These last items are only important if you are being considered for certain kinds of jobs, but to be considered for any jobs you must arrive at the interview on time. Second of all, the way you conduct yourself at the interview is important. At the outset, you should indicate your happiness at being granted an interview. You should listen carefully to questions and try to pause for a moment before you answer. Never interrupt the interviewer. Throughout the interview try to convey your personality so that the interviewer will feel that you will be the right kind of co-worker: pleasant, cooperative, industrious. Toward the end of the interview be prepared to ask a few questions about the job and don't forget to thank the interviewer before you leave. Third and last, what you do after the interview is also important. About three days after the interview, send the interviewer a letter thanking him or her for granting you the interview and expressing your desire to join the company. Following these steps will probably lead you to a good job.

Prediction

Very closely related to ending with a recommendation is ending with a prediction. After presenting the points you want to make, you might say what you expect will happen next or in the future.

Can we predict earthquakes? To answer it, scientists are looking very closely at the most active fault systems in the country, such as the San Andreas fault in California. A fault is a break between two sections of the earth’s surface. These breaks between sections are the places where earthquakes occur. Scientists look at the faults for changes which might show that an earthquake was about to occur. But it will probably be many years before we can predict earthquakes accurately and the control of earthquakes is even farther away.

Quotation

This type of conclusion can give credence to what has been written about, especially if an authority is quoted. It is reassuring to the reader to know that someone else has made a statement related to the author's discussion. In the following example, the quotation adds realism to the author's point of view thatnot everyone was enthralled with the idea of virtual church.

Germany’s Protestant Church seized the latest technology as it transmitted text highlights of a religious service to mobile phone users and invited them to join in.“Now it is up to you when and how you participate in mass,” the Protestant youth wing in the German city of Hanover said on their Internet site. “Whether alone, with friends, or on the streetcar. It’s your decision!” Under the pr
